I still compare prices. I still look for value. But I no longer confuse 'lowest price' with 'lowest cost.' The true cost of a part includes the time to manage the vendor, the risk of delays, the cost of defects, and the headache of poor communication.

For precision manufacturing—whether it's CNC, injection molding, or 3D printing—the vendor with the transparent, automated, and inclusive quoting process is almost always the cheaper option in the long run. Don't learn this the hard way like I did. Calculate the total cost, not just the line item.
